Lead Veterinarian – Clinic (Full-Time)

Animal Welfare Association is a non-profit organization that operates an animal shelter and public Pet Clinic in Voorhees, NJ, and is looking to fill a full-time time Lead Veterinarian position in our Pet Clinic.

The Lead Veterinarian will oversee the medical operations of AWA’s public Pet Clinic, including all veterinary services, wellness, spay/neuter surgeries, vaccine clinics, both on and offsite and euthanasia. Develop and implement protocols for veterinary medical and surgical care for clinic animals in accordance with standards of best practices. Provide high quality medical and surgical care including high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgery of clinic animals. Coordinate with veterinarians, veterinary staff, and other departments to optimize animal care and availability of services. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws governing animal care, veterinary medicine, reportable diseases, and controlled substances.
Hire, train and supervise Clinic Associate Veterinarian(s) and Independent Contracted Veterinarians. Assist Clinic Manager in mentoring and overseeing Veterinary Technicians.
Attend staff meetings and important organizational events, as necessary. Behave in a manner that upholds both personal and professional standards, as an ambassador of the AWA, at all times.

Qualifications

A DVM degree from an accredited school of veterinary medicine.
A license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of New Jersey (or the ability to obtain one). Professional Liability Insurance.
5-7 years’ experience working as a veterinarian
3-5 years’ experience managing veterinary technician staff

Open Positions

Animal Welfare Association (AWA) is seeking a Humane Education Coordinator to work in support of our belief that one of the major ways to prevent future animal homelessness is through education today. The will play a major role in helping us to fulfill this goal by helping to create, develop, and deliver mission-based, dynamic programming. These programs include, but are not limited to, Home School workshops, Scout Programs, family programs, birthday parties, community outreach programs, school visits, and field trips. This position allows for a great deal of creativity and ability to create new ways of reaching a variety of audiences to help us build a better future for animals. The Education Coordinator will work closely with all departments of the organization to help provide education support.

Humane Education Outreach:

  • Create and update training and materials for on- and off-site Education visits
  • Provide building tours of AWA Adoption & Education Center
  • Train volunteers interested in conducting Education visits and tours
  • Coordinate on- and off-site visits and field trips with groups and organizations
  • Plan and execute the summer off-site reading program with groups and organizations, including confirming participation, acquiring and delivering materials
  • Create physical and online resources accessible to the public for on-site and off-site programs
  • Work with other departments such as Clinic and Shelter to suggest/create materials to align their programs with Education messages

Summer Camp:

  • In coordination with other Education Coordinator, help oversee and execute AWA’s Summer Camp
  • Research and confirm outside participants and activities such as speakers or field trips for Summer Camp sessions
  • Prepare all materials for Summer Camp
  • Assist with marketing and promoting AWA’s Summer Camp
  • Confirm all camp participants and ensure all proper documentation is received prior to the start of camp sessions
  • Act as a back-up for Camp Counselors when needed
  • Serve as primary contact for Camp Counselors

Family and Kids’ Programs:

  • Plan and execute various on-site activities for families and youth, such as Kids’ Nights, Home School workshops, etc.
  • Work with Events Manager to coordinate family events and activities
  • Ensure necessary spaces are reserved through internal AWA processes for any on-site events/activities
  • Provide information about events and activities to the Website & Digital Communications Coordinator for promotion on AWA platforms
  • Ensure adequate and appropriate volunteer and staff coverage for events
  • Ensure all materials and supplies are acquired and prepared prior to start of each event or program

Scouts Programs:

  • Oversee the educational component of the Scouts Programs at AWA (Brownie Pets Badge, Boy Scout Dog Care Merit Badge, and other badges)
  • Work with the Behavior Department/Medical Staff to ensure appropriate coverage and information is presented based on the Scout Program guidelines
  • Receive requests for Scout groups and troops for visits and respond appropriately
  • Ensure all materials are prepared for each visit
  • Ensure all materials are up to date for each program

Birthday Parties:

  • Serve as primary contact for on-site birthday parties
  • Receive inquiries for parties and respond to each inquiry in a timely manner
  • Plan and facilitate execution of each birthday party, including set-up of space(s), ensure appropriate staff/volunteer coverage, ensure staff/volunteers are prepared, ensure space(s) are cleaned up after event
  • Work with the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator to ensure volunteers have prepared Birthday Bags, birthday goodie bags, and materials for activities prior to event
  • Monitor and manage inventory of birthday party supplies and materials (Birthday Bags, goodie bags, decorations, and activities)

Marketing/Promotion and Development:

  • Must be familiar with and aware of AWA’s brand and style guidelines when creating materials
  • Work closely with other departments and attend regular meetings to discuss collaborations and fundraising opportunities
  • Draft documents for inclusion in AWA publications
  • Track metrics to document AWA’s programs to share with supporters and for grants
  • Answer inquiries from supporters in an appropriate and timely manner and handle inquiries efficiently

Other:

  • Monitor and be accountable for budget items and resources
  • Prepare reports of activity relative to Education and programs
  • Maintain and update computerized database, communication tools, forms, and documents for all Humane Education activities and programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • A varying schedule (including days, evenings, and weekends) is required to ensure coverage of programs, activities, and events.

Animal Welfare Association (AWA) is seeking a part-time Education Programs Facilitator to work closely with the Education Coordinators to facilitate and co-facilitate AWA’s various educational programs and events. These programs include but are not limited to, Scout Badges, Birthday Parties, Kids Night Out, and Outreach Visits. This position is also encouraged to develop and create program activities and games.

Essential Functions:

  • Duties include, but are not limited to, leading various Education Programs, leading groups in discussion/public speaking, setting-up and preparing materials for each program, safely touring guests through various spaces within the facility, and breaking-down and cleaning up any spaces and materials used during an event; performing other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children and/or teaching preferred
  • Knowledgeable about companion animals or Animal Science preferred

 

Position Requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission of AWA and to the humane treatment of animals
  • Must have flexible schedule and be willing and available to work weekends and evenings for program coverage. Hours are on an as-needed basis (average 3 – 15/week).
